Treaty of Paris
John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay

On This Document
Signed September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War on terms far more generous than Britain's negotiators expected: full recognition of American independence, fishing rights off Newfoundland, and a western border at the Mississippi. The American team — Adams, Franklin, and Jay — negotiated separately from France, against Congress's instructions, and won.
